COVID-19 Client Precautions Upon Arrival
Unfortunately with COVID-19, this is no longer a time and place to bring in your friends and family to be with you at your appointments (obviously does not apply to kids cuts). We adhere to the Forward Dane policies and have to keep our guest counts and staff at a minimum. It’s quite simply inappropriate at this time, so “clicks…” you have to stay home.
#MMCstyle Salon’s represented hours for booking appointments are accurate as shown, please choose to book with the first available stylist or choose a stylist to book your next haircut or hair color service with them directly.
If you’re experiencing COVID-19 or FLU-like symptoms or have been recently exposed to COVID-19 please reschedule or cancel your appointment. No cancellation fee, we only ask that you let us know since we have to keep our staff trim as well.
Please use the hand sanitizer available at the front desk at check-in.
Clients should bring a cloth face covering to their appointment, or we provide them at the front desk during check in as well, feel free to ask.
We’re encouraging clients to wear a face covering when entering the salon.
Also, we’ve been killing germs with Barbicide for years, still do and it works on the coronavirus, bottom line, we’re here following the Forward Dane procedures to keep you and everyone as safe possible.

Enter through the front door marked 1016 directly off of East Washington Avenue in the newest big growth area of Madison. Complete and upcoming projects of high end hotels, housing, techy office space, concert venues, restaurants, AND the door-front parking to match have this area already bustling with vehicle, bus, and foot traffic. Being located at the Lyric building complete with apartments above, stretches high into the Madison skyline, gaining us the ability to be easily found with the bonus of covered garage parking.
Plenty of bar seating in the windows of the salon and at the multi-use reception desk (ADA height checkout counter, bar with seating for guests, a beverage fridge holding wine and local brew options, bottled water, sparkling water, soda and juice) gives our guests plenty of socially distanced space to relax and unwind before the start of an appointment with a beverage. At this time we are asking only those individuals (exception kids cuts) with appointments to be in the salon. With COVID-19 we’ve had to simplify our lobby seating below our eclectic pendent chandelier designed by Mal. At #MMCstyle Hair Salon we wanted to create a trendy, comfortable space to keep our guests talking about us and thinking about coming back to hang out for their next appointment, and hopefully one day after COVID-19 restrictions ease up we can host an event!

This consistency is perfect for achieving seamless color-blending, and ‘stay put’ shadow rooting. Use on its own or as a support tool for Pulp Riot’s FACTION8 Permanent Color Line.
How do I use the new hair color?
In a non-metallic bowl or applicator bottle, mix 1 part Liquid Demi to 1 part Liquid Demi Developer*. Apply to damp or dry hair. Standard process time: 20 minutes, without heat. *For use only with Pulp Riot specifically-formulated Demi-Permanent Developer
Pro Tips:
- Process under 20 minutes for softer color deposit, without heat.
- Process for a total of 40 minutes to help blend grey (20 minutes with cap, under dryer, and an additional 20 minutes without heat).
Is it the same level/base number system as Faction8?
Yes. The numbering system matches the Pulp Riot FACTION8 Permanent Color Line, making it easy to use and the optimal color-support tool.
Is the new demi permanent color line vegan and animal cruelty free?
Yes. All Pulp Riot products have been, and will continue to be vegan, and not tested on animals.
How do I use clear (0-0)
Clear can be used to dilute any of Pulp Riot’s Demi-Permanent colors (including boosters), or used on its own to create extra shine. When using Clear, the same mixing ratio (1:1) applies, with our specifically-formulated Liquid Demi Developer.
Will it “Bump” natural hair color?
No. Pulp Riot’s Demi-Permanent Liquid Color is an acidic, no-lift formulation. It will not shift your natural hair color.

Exciting times (wtf?) to be Opening Soon #MMCstyle Salon
#MMCstyle Salon – New Location – @ 1016 E Washington Ave – OPENING SOON
#MMCstyle Misters – Madams – Color – Salon, is staying open and doubling down on safety and sanitation practices. All Madison salons, whether they’re closing or staying open, are under tremendous financial stress right now. Many closed shops are raising money online to tip workers and encouraging clients to buy gift cards for future appointments and/or to book future appointments in mid to late April.
Mallory Cook (me), owner of #MMCstyle is also opening a new location at 1016 E Washington Ave in downtown Madison, so the timing of the current global, state and local situation is a defining WTF moment, we are rising up to meet. Currently, we are taking “well” clients one at a time and making efforts to sell gift cards, products and book new appointments. The money, which acts like a tip jar, will go toward its filling the gap of clients rescheduling while helping us all take time to concentrate on the new location opening. We’ve heard of some shops selling gift cards by phone and we wish them good luck, but we also understand how our clients purse-strings are also getting tight, so we are also focusing on booking out now, for later.

Madison salon owners are also hoping state government officials step up and provide financial relief to small businesses and help workers get unemployment benefits faster. A petition calling on a federal aid package for the country’s cosmetology, barber and body work industry is circulating widely online. It’s also difficult, because salons aren’t just for pampering, they are safe places to share opinions and talk about our current events and work through them together…it’s a community place.
People call in to get appointments NOT because they were called off work. Not for reasons of vanity, but for a sense of community along with a place to vent frustrations of their current situation at work or home.

Haircut & Hairstyle Trend: The Shagged Lob
Lately it seems we all about the shag! Shagged LOB haircut that is!
First of all let me say, the LOB haircut became SO popular, because the younger generations associate a “bob” as a “mom cut” or as someone who is “older.” But lets be real, a lob haircut is a version of a “classic” bob; therefore, the lob is a bob. So from here on out in this blog, I’m going to reference it as a bob haircut. And because so many people are still rocking their bobs (of ALL different lengths), but feeling up for a change, adding some shaggy layers is the ultimate client and stylist dream when we talk about having a shared reality of what is possible for a new haircut option. Clients actually can feel like they’ve gotten a change, but still have the comfort of their usual length, and hairstylists feels like they are actually accomplishing a change rather than the usual trim. It also gives us stylists an opportunity to chat new styling options, so fun!
Lately the hairstyle trends being messier have offered so many more options to our always classy and in style bobs. Bob haircuts have become shaggier, more texturized, so much edgier looking. Straight, wavy, or curly, whether natural, or curl added with a wand or iron of some sort, add their own custom style to this do as well. Loosening up some of that hair by adding texture has really made it easier to pull off these looks in such a fashion forward kind of way.
Soft wind-swept styled shag:
This can be achieved air drying your hair. Try a cream such as Pureology Hydrate Air Dry Cream, it adds moisture to keep fly-aways under control, and allows your hair to dry with soft and natural flips, and kicks. Tuck a side behind your ear while pulling out the “side burn” area of the hair. Finish with adding Pureology Style & Protect Soft Finish hairspray to softly hold your style in place for the day, while you protect your color as well!

Beach wavy shag:
Style this with a wand, or favorite curling iron of your choice. Start the curls around the widest area of your head for some great fullness, for an elongated curl look, give the curl a tug once you let it fall off the iron to stretch it out. Set your curls with a texture finishing spray such as Spray Putty from Fat Boy and use a scrunching motion with your hands for the ultimate texture & volume in your hairstyle.

Who said curly girls can’t have fun with their haircut? They’re so wrong! These sweet shaggy layers create so much versatility and shape within a haircut for every type of curly girl. For you really wild curly girls try Pureology Taming Butter as a leave in conditioner, curly softener, and layer some Pureology Uplifting Curl Spray over for some hold. Let air dry, or diffuse for added volume and you will have a beautiful curly shag haircut that you will for sure get compliments on!
